Dual-screen LAN case
In my various trips to LAN events, I have been noticing that people are getting increasingly tired of carrying lots of kit back and forth - not because the stuff is heavy, but because it's just lots of different bits and bobs.
By the time you've got a big gamers case, a monitor or two, keyboard and mouse, headphones, cables and the like you've got to carry an awful lot of kit.
So, I thought I would make a case that had as many components integrated into the case as possible. Whilst a lot of stuff can be thrown into a bag, the case and monitor are often the two most awkward things to carry, so my plan was to make a case that combined those elements.
This is just a small preview of the case, and I will be posting the full worklog when I get back from the LAN party. This case turned out to be more difficult to execute than I had originally planned, even though I thought I had my measurements right!
The case itself is a Lian Li modular cube, which is still fairly rare. I also grabbed a pair of 19" Samsung TFT's. My plan was to put the two screens into the sides of the case (one on either side) and install them in such a way so that the side panels could be opened like doors.
I had to cut some chunky holes in the side of the case, as well as drilling into the plastic frames of the monitors.
There were a whole bunch of unforeseen problems that I encountered. The screens were an awkward depth, the plastic bezel was too big, and so I had to improvise to get the whole thing looking good.
In the end, I think the solution worked out pretty well - stay tuned for the full worklog very soon!
